Our Autumn Term Journey
Autumn One and Two
This term in Early Years PE we will begin to look at developing our physical movement and Gross Motor skills. During the course of the year we will be able to move with confidence, control and with coordination. We will show awareness of space, of ourselves and of others. We will be also using a range of small and large equipment. We will be able to travel around, under, over equipment.
In KS1 this half term we will be looking at Invasion Games. We will further develop our understanding of the basic and fundamental principles of invasion games such as attacking, defending, scoring and teamwork. We will learn how to dribble with a ball, to pass and receive the ball in a variety of ways for a range of invasion games such as Football, Rugby, Hockey and Basketball. We will be able to use space effectively in a game. We will learn how to dodge to get free from a defender to receive a pass as well as how to mark an opposition player – all important skills needed to play invasion games. We will have the opportunity to take part in individual, paired and small group activities as well as to play a range of team games to enable us to practise and improve our skills. The unit also encourages us to think about the effects of exercise on our bodies and why it is important to warm up and cool down.
In Year 1 PE this half term we are learning all about Net and Wall games. Players/teams score by hitting an object into a court space in such a way that the opposing player/team cannot hit it back within the allowed amount of bounces. Tactical problems related to net and wall games include setting up an attack, creating space on offence, reducing space on defence, etc. Examples of net and wall games include tennis, volleyball, squash and badminton.
In Year 2 PE this half term we are learning all about Gymnastics. Over the course of this half term we will be learning to develop the ability to jump in a range of ways from one space to another. To control our body when jumping and balancing. To create a sequence using a jump and a balance. We will also be developing the ability to roll in a range of ways and finally to perform a sequence with confidence and control.
This half term in LSK2 PE we are learning about Invasion Games. We will develop a range of skills and improve our knowledge and understanding for the rules of the games. We will begin to use tactics for attacking and defending in game situations. We will also take part in competitions throughout the year to further embed our learning.
In this half term in LKS2 PE we are learning about Net and Wall games. We will develop our ability to use a bat or racquet to strike a ball or shuttlecock with accuracy and control. We will also improve our ability to accurately serve underarm, build a rally with a partner and use at least two different shots in a game situation.
In UKS2 PE this half term we are learning all about net and wall games. In this unit we will focus on developing the skills we need for net/wall games and will learn how to use these skills to make the game difficult for our opponent. We will learn to direct the ball towards the target area and away from our opponent. In all games and activities, we have to think about how we use skills, strategies and tactics to outwit our opposition. In net/wall games, we would achieve this by sending a ball (or other implement) towards a court or target area which our opponent is defending. The aim is to get the ball to land in the target area and make it difficult for our opponent to return it.
In UKS2 PE this half term we are learning all about Invasion Games. An invasion game is used to describe any game where the objective is to attack the opposition's territory and score a goal or point. They are usually played between teams of equal players and these fast paced games focus on teamwork, maintaining possession, scoring and defending. Basketball, Hockey, Football and Rugby are all examples of invasion games. The children we will be able to use space effectively in a game and they will learn how to dodge to get free from a defender to receive a pass as well as how to mark an opposition player – all important skills needed to play invasion games.
