Riddlesden St Mary

Our Spring Term Journey

Spring 1

This half term we have been reading 'The Gingerbread Man'.

We have really enjoyed the story and joining in with 'run, run as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

We have been using the gingerbread men cutters in the playdough area.

We carried out an experiment to find out what would happen if the Gingerbread Man went into the river.

We put a gingerbread man biscuit in water, washing up liquid, oil and flour.

Before:

water                      washing up liquid                       oil                                     flour

After:

water                   washing up liquid                     oil                                     flour

We found that the gingerbread men biscuits in the water and washing up liquid had become soft and broke up, The gingerbread men in the oil and flour were still hard.

We know that the Gingerbread Man wouldn't have been able to swim across the river because he would have turned soft and broken up!

We have made our own gingerbread men.

We had to listen carefully to the instructions and measure out different amounts of each ingredient.

We all had a go at pouring, mixing, rolling and cutting!

We put the gingerbread men in the oven but when we came to school the next day Miss Watmough told us that the gingerbread men had escaped from the oven!

We had a look in the oven and tried to work out what had happened!

Konayn said "The fox got them!"

Aaminah asked "How did the gingerbread men open the door?"

We decided to make some 'wanted' posters to try and find the gingerbread men,

The gingerbread men had left a note saying that they had tried to escape but now they were lost. They needed our help to find them.

The nursery children found the gingerbread men!

Everyone enjoyed eating the gingerbread men!

Snow!

Nursery put on their coats, hats, scarfs and gloves and went out to play in the snow.

Everyone had a good time out in the snow. They were making marks in the snow, picking it up and making footprints!

 Spring 2

Values day

On Tuesday we joined in with the whole school Values day. We talked about what the values meant and made rainbows to represent the colours of the house teams. Some of our parents joined us for the part of the morning to help with making the rainbows.

We love playing outside!

We have been making the most of the beautiful weather this week. We have spent lots of time outside exploring the outdoor area, looking at the seasonal changes and looking after living things.

Spring Walk

We have been on a few walk around the school grounds to look for signs of Spring.

We noticed lots of daffodils, buds growing on the plants and some blossom.

We could here the birds tweeting in the trees and saw the sun up in the sky.

Back at nursery we have continued to spot  signs of Spring in our outdoor area.

Road safety

We have been learning about keeping safe when crossing the road.

When asked about crossing the road safety this is what the children said:

"Hold adults hand"

"Look if there are any cars coming"

"Walk across the road"

"Press button, wait for cars to stop and bell to go".

We learnt a song to help us remember how to cross the road safety.

"Stop, look, listen before you cross the street,

Stop, look, listen before you cross the street.

Use your eyes, use your ears before you move your feet.

Stop, look, listen before you cross the street".

  Stop!           Look!

  Listen!     Cross!

Dinosaurs!

This half term we have been reading 'Dinosaurs  in the Supermarket'.

One day we came to Nursery and found an egg! We talked about what the egg looked like and shared ideas about what we thought it could be.

The next day we arrived at Nursery and found that the egg had hatched! A dinosaur came out of the egg. We watched a video of the dinosaur exploring the inside and outside of our nursery.

The dinosaur left us a letter asking if we could be his friend. His name was Dip. The children then decided to write letters to Dip telling him that they would be his friend.

Dip has been to visit us quite a lot. We have helped him to buy items on his shopping list and count out the items that he had already bought.

The children have been writing their own shopping lists and using them in our supermarket role play area.
