Bonfire night and Jackson Pollock - Week 1

This week we have focused on our key artist Jackson Pollock who achieved his great pieces of art work through the medium of splatter painting.

The children found out some key facts about him and then they became Jackson Pollock creating their own large scale splatter artwork.

In Maths this week we have been learning all about number 1.

We have also celebrated bonfire night, creating art work around it and exploring colours. The children enjoyed sharing their ideas around what they know about fireworks.

They go boom boom boom - Alyaan

They are noisy and I don't like them because they ae noisy - Bertie

Week 2 - Remembrance Day and Bear Hunt

We began the week by thinking about poppy day and it's importance. We watched a clip, learned some key facts and then used out observational drawing skills to create our own poppies.

Something very exciting happened in our classroom, we came to school to discover giant footprints in our classroom, we investigated and shared our ideas around what had visited us. We then made posters to let others in school know that we had had a   visitor.

We will be keeping an eye out to see if we can help our vistor over the coming weeks.

In maths this week we have been learning about number 2, we sailed to number 2 island and discovered things that came in pairs.

We will continue to explore 2 next week.

This week we have also been discovering what is inside a pumpkin, opening the ones we had in the classroom and using a range of tools to dig them out and explore.

Week 3 and 4 - Bear Hunt continues....

We decided to paint some bears to let everyone know what we thought our friendly looked like. We used our observational painting skills and worked with small brushes to support the development of our fine motor skills.

Have a look at some of our amazing paintings.

We also made bear faces using small loose parts to create patterns.

We have enjoyed creating bear caves in the construction area, using blocks and other interesting loose parts and then testing them out using our small world bears.

In maths we have been learning all about number 2, creating a number 2 island and adding things in pairs. We loved going on an island adventure leaving 2 of everything behind.

Week 5 and 6 - Lets meet the polar bears

Our bear from the bear hunt story has gone into hibernation for Winter now. He has introduced us to his friend the polar bear who loves the cold and is helping us to learn all about cold places.

We explored cold colours through our big painting area. The children created a tundra of colours to represent the Arctic both inside and outside.

We have used our fine motor skills in a fun tweezer and pompom activity, Collecting snowballs and filling up the tin. The children have enjoyed competing against each other in this.

We have also enjoyed exploring Jack Frost and his Wintery ways. We discussed the magic around the character and the fact we never see him. The children shared their ideas and then we painted him. We used our expressive ideas.

We made the most of the Winter sunshine and enjoyed some outdoor fun with a Winter theme in mind.
