Riddlesden St Mary

Nursery

At Riddlesden St Marys we recognise the importance of your child’s start to their learning journey and we aim to offer a fantastic start to school life.

Our Nursery provides a stimulating and nurturing environment which offers rich opportunities for investigative, imaginative and creative play.

We learn through a combination of self-initiated play and adult directed tasks which helps to promote independent learning. Through carefully planned topics, a well-resourced environment and an inspiring team we fully immerse children in their learning.

Children are given a wealth of opportunities to explore both inside and outside, developing communication skills, building strong friendships!

Children are given a wealth of opportunities to explore both inside and outside, developing communication skills, building strong friendships as well as being introduced to key maths and literacy concepts. We explore early mark making in sensory activities such as shaving foam and cornflour gloop. We carefully balance blocks and count to see how tall our towers are. We take turns on our slide and climbing frame and work together to build with our outdoor construction. We role-play in our mud kitchen making delicious concoctions. We listen to stories and read everywhere. Plus much more!

We are very lucky in Nursery as we have daily opportunities to explore our outdoor environment and we go outside in all weathers; jumping in muddy puddles, running in the wind and making footprints in the snow!

Outdoor learning is key and we regularly explore our extensive school grounds; visiting the allotment, exploring in the forest and even feeding ducks on the canal.

As well as these more regular opportunities we also go on a trip to the farm where we get to collect eggs from the chickens, bottle feed baby lambs and calves, stroke baby animals as well as play on their exciting adventure playground.

We value strong home school relationships and therefore host several parental workshops throughout the year to foster and maintain this communication. During these sessions you get to explore with your child in our Nursery setting, talk to the Nursery practitioners and develop your own understanding of early development.

Every week we hold 'Stay and Play' sessions on Thursdays, we invite parents in to nursery to engage in fun activities with their children then we finish each session by enjoying a story together.
