Computing
In computing this term children were introduced to emails. They learnt about the features of emails, how to stay safe online and got to opportunity to write an email to a Volcanologist and to the National Geographic.

Geography
In our lessons about volcanoes, Year 3 learned what volcanoes are and where they are found around the world. We explored the parts of a volcano and discovered how volcanoes erupt. The children learned about lava, magma, ash, and gases, and how eruptions can change the land.
We also talked about how volcanoes can be dangerous but can also be helpful, for example by making the soil fertile. Through videos, diagrams, and creative activities, the children asked great questions and developed their geography and science knowledge.

Science
In our lessons about rocks, soil and fossils, Year 3 learned that there are different types of rocks and that they are used for different purposes. We explored how soil is made and discovered that different soils are good for different plants.
The children learned how fossils are formed and what they can tell us about the past. We looked at real-life examples, pictures, and models to help us understand these ideas. Through investigations and discussions, the children developed their scientific vocabulary and observation skills.
English
In English, Year 3 explored the book The Street Beneath My Feet to learn about what lies under our towns and cities. We used the book to develop our reading skills, ask questions, and learn new vocabulary. The children enjoyed exploring the detailed illustrations and discussing what they noticed beneath the ground.
We used the book as inspiration for our writing. The children wrote descriptions using powerful adjectives and expanded noun phrases. They also practised organising information clearly and writing in a factual style, linking their learning to science and geography topics.
Our class poem
Beneath the street where people go,
A hidden world we’ll never know.
Tunnels, pipes and fossils too,
Secrets buried out of view.
Layers of earth, stone and clay,
Holding stories from each day.
Look below, imagine deep,
The world beneath us never sleeps.

Art
Our artist this half term was Roy Lichtenstein and David Hockney. Using our knowledge of David Hockney we used vivid colours and recreated a volcano landscape. We created volcanoes using our digital media skills.
