Bradford teaching up for two 'Teaching Oscars'
Teaching in Bradford has been recognised in this year’s prestigious Pearson Teaching Awards.
Gillian Edge, Headtacher at Killinghall Primnary School has scooped a Silver Teaching Award in the Lifetime Achievement category and Dixon’s Trinity Academy has done the same in the School of the year – ‘Making a difference’ category.
They were selected from 1,000s of nominations.
Open to every school in England, Wales and Northern Ireland the awards, which are in their 20th year, recognise and celebrate excellence in education.
The silver award winners will go on to a glittering ceremony which will be held in central London on 21st October. There they will find out which of them has achieved one of just 12 Gold Plato awards, considered the UK’s teaching Oscars. This year’s ceremony, entitled “Britain’s classroom heroes”, will be filmed and broadcast by the BBC.

I was surprised and honoured to receive the award which was presented to me by our Chair of Governors in front of the children at a surprise assembly.
I have worked in Bradford the whole of my career as an NQT at Swain House, Carrwood, St John’s, and Greengates Primary Schools. I then spent 12 years as Headteacher at St Paul’s Primary and have served my final 14 years as Headteacher at Killinghall. It has been a very interesting journey, full of challenges, but more so filled with laughter and lifelong learning.
“I am passionate about the children in Bradford and all the wonderful committed staff we have that work tirelessly to ensure they get the very best education possible.
“I’m looking forward to the Gold Award Ceremony in October. It would be wonderful to bring home yet another trophy for Bradford.
