Phase 5 Phonics

In Phase 5 children learn other ways to write the graphemes for sounds they have already learnt, for example ‘ay’ makes the same sound as ‘ai’. Children will learn how to use split digraphs and also begin to look at alternative pronunciations of previously learnt graphemes. Another set of 'tricky words' will be learnt in Phase 5.

By this Phase, children would be encouraged to read many words by sight, decoding only when unsure.

 Phoneme Flash Cards

It is very important that we pronounce letter sounds clearly and correctly. Join in and say the phonemes with Miss Halliday.
