Remote Education

Our Commitment

At Riddlesden, we believe that face-to-face attendance provides the best educational experience for children. Remote education will only be used in exceptional circumstances where a pupil is unable to attend school but is well enough to learn, or where school access is restricted. Our aim is to help pupils continue their learning and remain connected to school during any period of absence.

When Remote Education May Be Provided

Remote education may be considered in the following circumstances:

  • Emergency school closure or restricted attendance.
  • Short-term absence due to illness or recovery from a medical procedure.
  • Other exceptional circumstances where a child is unable to attend school but is able to learn.
  • In some cases, pupils with SEND or medical needs where remote learning forms part of a planned reintegration to school.
  • Remote education will not normally be provided for short-term school closures caused by unforeseen events, such as a single day of adverse weather. However, where disruption is expected to be more prolonged, the school will consider providing remote education to support continuity of learning.

Remote education is not intended to replace attendance at school and will only be used when attendance is not possible.

How Learning Will Be Delivered

Children will have access to:

  • Learning activities that closely match the curriculum being taught in school.
  • A broad range of subjects, where appropriate.
  • High-quality online resources and educational platforms.
  • Opportunities to submit work and receive feedback from teachers.

Expectations for Pupils

We ask pupils to:

  • Engage with learning activities each day.
  • Submit work as requested by their teacher.
  • Follow online safety expectations when using any digital platforms.
  • Communicate respectfully when interacting online.

Expectations for Parents and Carers

Parents and carers can support by:

  • Establishing a suitable routine for learning.
  • Encouraging completion of assigned work.
  • Contacting school if support is needed.
  • Helping children access online learning where appropriate for their age.

Support for SEND Pupils

Where remote education is required, we will make reasonable adjustments to help pupils with SEND access learning. We will work closely with families to ensure provision is tailored to individual needs and remains achievable within the home environment.

Access to Technology

If families experience difficulties accessing devices or the internet, they should contact the school. We will work with families wherever possible to reduce barriers to learning. Schools should seek to overcome barriers to digital access and may provide alternative arrangements where necessary.

Non-Digital Learning

Where online access is not available, we will provide alternative learning materials, such as printed work packs, alongside appropriate communication with families.

Feedback and Communication

Teachers will provide opportunities for pupils to receive feedback on their learning and maintain regular communication where appropriate. Interaction with teachers and peers remains an important aspect of effective remote education.

Online Safety

Keeping children safe online is a priority. Pupils are expected to follow our acceptable use agreements when accessing remote learning. Parents can find additional online safety guidance through the links below:

Schools should ensure remote education arrangements are delivered safely and in line with safeguarding requirements.
